Meet the new tallest dog around: Kevin. Guinness World Records has officially recognized Kevin, a Great Dane from West Des Moines, Iowa, as the world’s tallest living dog.

Contrary to popular belief, a dog's height isn’t measured while they stand on their hind legs like a human. You don’t often see dogs strolling around that way! Instead, their height is determined from the bottom of their feet to the withers—the area at the top of the shoulder blades.

By this measure, Kevin stands at 3 feet, 2 inches, roughly the height of a three-year-old child. He’s only three inches shorter than the previous record holder, Zeus, another Great Dane who sadly passed from bone cancer in 2023.

Kevin enjoys life with his owners, Tracy and Roger Wolfe, and his human siblings, Alexander and Ava. The Wolfe family, passionate animal lovers, have three dogs, four cats, and a variety of other animals including chickens, goats, and horses. Tracy also runs the Animal Medical Clinic of Merle Hay in Des Moines.

As you can see, Kevin loves to cuddle and often forgets just how big he is, especially when the vacuum cleaner comes out.

“He’s absolutely terrified of the vacuum,” Wolfe shared with Guinness. “He won’t let it get within six feet of him! He jumps and runs away as soon as he hears it.”

Despite his nervous tendencies, Kevin is named after a brave character — Kevin McCallister from the “Home Alone” movies. He also reminds his owner of someone very dear to her, her late Great Dane, Cora.

"Both were black mantle Danes," Tracy says.
